Interview: Ayarez

Miami based DJ and producer Ayarez makes an explosive SNOE debut with “Breathe EP”. Just in time for the release we sat down with him to discuss his music, studio habits and the Miami music scene.

Hei Ayarez. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Your new EP “Breathe” is out on SNOE these days, what was your inspiration behind it?

No problem, It’s my pleasure, been a fan of the label for a while!

It was different for each track, for the Breathe track I was trying to implement Arabic sounds and bring a bit of a Arabic Vibe to a house track and for ‘They Love me’ I wanted to make a track with a driving 808 bassline and a catchy hook, really happy with how both came out and super excited for this EP!

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?

Fun House Music! Always Groovy, Always Funky and most importantly always FUN!

And can you tell us a bit about your musical background and where you are from?

I’m originally from Honduras, but been living in Miami, FL almost my whole life and I’ve been making music for about 4 years now.

How much time do you spend in the studio?

Short answer would be A LOT, just about everyday, work at least a bit everyday and stay consistent.

What is your favourite toy for making music?

Honestly most of my tracks are made with samples I manipulate, chop, pitch, stretch and make my own, the only Synth I use regularly is probably Rob Pappen’s Sub Boom Bass.

With whom would you like to spend time in the studio?

He doesn’t do House Music but Timbaland is my all time favorite producer, his sounds and melodies and drums are just on another level, I’d love to be in the studio with him and watch him work.

What is the one thing you can’t be without in the studio?

My Sample library haha!

And what is the one thing you do not want in your studio?

Clutter… A bunch of studio equipment I never use that just takes up space. I have my essentials and that’s what I stick to.

What are your guilty pleasures?

Sweets! I like them all… Cookies, cake, ice cream, Ice cream Cake, pastries you name it I like it… Gotta control myself when I’m around them.

How would you describe the scene where you live?

The Scene here in Miami is very much alive but very minimal and techno, the more upbeat style I make is still small but growing steadily, I don’t focus on it too much though, going global is definitely my goal!

Any place you would like to play that you haven’t been yet?

Honestly I’d like to play a big Festival like EDC or Ultra, just feel like my music would do well in that type of setting.

What do you drink when you play?

Haha just water! Not much of a drinker, at my best with a sober mind.

How do you balance music and everyday life?

Really it’s just knowing my priorities, I know what has to get done and after that it’s just squeezing in as much music as possible, really happy with how things are going so I guess it’s working!

What’s in store for you over the next few months?

A lot of dope releases on some cool labels and some really dope shows! Got stuff lined up all the way till August as of now and honestly really excited for it all!

What is your favourite Norwegian word? 😉

Haha honestly I don’t know any ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
