We’re excited to shine the spotlight on none other than Berndt Bechstein in our latest SNOE Affairs interview and DJ mix! A true staple of the SNOE family, Berndt has been turning heads with his consistently solid releases and standout sets at our showcases. Known for his finely-tuned grooves and deep, driving energy, he brings that unmistakable Bechstein flair every time. To celebrate, he’s cooked up a fresh mix packed with rhythm and warmth. In addition he took the time to answer some of our questions! Get ready to dive in!
1)How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?
Groovy, energetic and uplifting! It’s all about expressing feelings and in best case creating unforgettable Momentes on the Dancefloor full of happiness and Joy!
2) We love your latest release. What was your inspiration for the EP?
On the Title track “Back to Life” I just played around with 2 Synths and detuned them against each other so they create this really big overwhelming Sound & Feeling when they hit different notes. Actually this melody is changing the key tonality consistently somehow, I had no clue what I was doing while playing these notes but it sounds huge. For the drums I decided to make this one really dirty with that big unconventional Snare to give it a quite unique touch! Somehow now it’s a bit of a Rave Track and I think I processed a few personal setbacks and hurdles that I had to overcome in this song, which is why I named it “Back to Life“
3) How do you get into a creative flow?
I would like to split that question a bit in Studio Context and General Context.
● Studio: Play around with synths and effects and do things I never did before. Just starting somewhere, creating crazy unconventional stuff and don’t think about anything. Sounds super easy but is very hard actually, you really have to be in a balanced mental state of mind to completely forget everything and let yourself falling into the sound!
● General: Sometimes the less I am in the studio and spending time with people I really enjoy and love the more creative I am when I go back! Living your Life, enjoying the beauty of friendship and having a good time on earth is for me the best creative resource! I’m very often very hard to myself when something is not working the way I wanted and struggling very hard to break this. But most of the Time it’s completely unnecessary and the answer is simple – Take some steps back and focus on the important things in life!
4) Do you have a morning routine?
Unfortunatel not 🙁
This morning I thought about going back to bed right after breakfast haha ha ha…
5) What do you love most about being an artist?
Making Art
6) Most profound insight you had since you started this career?
Do simple shit! To make something very simple very very good is mostly a hundred times better than making a complicated thing semi-good!
7) How do you strike a balance between private life and life as an artist?
To define a private Life as someone who’s doing creative work is really not that easy. In my case I really think all day long about music. When I wake up in the morning it already starts. I’m pretty sure that everyone who’s crafting creative work will understand that. Whether you write songs, draw pictures, write poems, write books, play in a theater, create performance art, or whatever else you do to express your creativity. If you’re truly passionate about it, it won’t let go of you that easily!
