SNOE Affairs DJ-set & Interview // Adrian Hour

We’re very happy to welcome Adrian Hour to SNOE Affairs series. A longtime friend of the label and a consistently outstanding producer and DJ, he joins us in connection with his New Life EP on SNOE. In this interview, Adrian talks about the ideas behind the release, his creative process and the evolution of his sound.

1) How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?

I’d describe my music as dancefloor-oriented electronic music that blends groove-driven rhythms and sometimes with emotional depth. It pulls from house and techno energy, but with a personal feel — powerful yet playful, designed to make people move and feel something at the same time. Keeping always a few sounds/elements kind of “retro”, vintage.

2) We love your new release. What was your inspiration for the songs?

Thank you! With A New Life, I wanted to bring some type of old grooves we used to dance 10 or 15 years ago. I was inspired by the energy of Terrace’s club culture and the idea of rebirth on the dancefloor: creating tracks that feel both fresh and timeless, with tight drums, rolling grooves, and textures that invite people into the moment.

3) How do you get into a creative flow?

My creative flow usually starts with a rhythm or sound that captures my attention — a groove, a texture, or even an unexpected percussive idea. I keep experimenting in the studio until it starts to feel like something more than just sound — then I let the track grow organically from there, adding layers of sounds and vocals or samples we can recognize but changed a bit so it’s not exactly what we know.

4) Tell us a bit about what you have been up to lately?

Lately I’ve been deep in studio mode — finishing and releasing some new music like on SNOE, Toolroom, Virgo and shaping my sound every time, exploring new ways of creation like with machines and analog stuff. Also working on collaborations and the visual direction of future releases and events.

5) What is the one thing you can’t be without in the studio?

A solid pair of speakers (and a sub low)— for me, feeling the groove and low end clearly is essential to shaping a track that moves a room.

6) And what is the one thing you do not want in your studio?

Distractions that pull me out of focus. When I’m making music, I need quiet concentration and a sense of space to explore ideas deeply.

7) What do you love most about being an artist?

I love the freedom to express something that can connect with people even without words — especially through rhythm and energy. Seeing a track come alive on a dancefloor or stage is one of the most rewarding experiences.

8) What is your favourite Norwegian word? 😉

“Balanse.” I like how it represents the idea of finding equilibrium, between groove and emotion, movement and stillness, the dancefloor and introspection. And you can say it very similar in lot of languages.
