SNOE Affairs DJ-set & Interview // Tony H

We’re beyond thrilled to welcome the talented Tony H to the label with a remix for COLOR.LOVE and Mitch Dodge’s track “Tell Me How U Feel”. To celebrate, we sat down with him to have a chat about his music, studio habits, and of course, favourite Norwegian word.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?

I would say my music sometimes has a very high energy, festival kind of vibe and then I have some stuff that’s more of the old school warehouse rave kind of sound. Most recently some of the stuff I have been making has been really going back to my roots of Panama City, Panama and making more of the stripped down and groovy tech with some tribal tech elements as well.

We love your new remix. What was your inspiration for it? Was there something that was more challenging or easy when working on it?

Thanks so much! I had so much fun making it. For some reason when I started that remix I wanted mine to have a little bouncy feel to it but also like the 90’s rave vibe in a way. I don’t even know what inspired but once i figured out the bassline, I was like “oh yeah, this is it right here haha!”

What is the one thing you can’t be without in the studio?

Water and Snacks for sure. Oreo cookies or chips or some sour gummy worms.

4) Do you have a morning routine?

Honestly no hahaha. It’s different every morning. Sometimes before I have to get into any real work, I’ll play some Sade and have a snack. Sometimes I’ll catch the latest sports new and sometimes I am simply just rotting in bed until I finally get up lol

5) What is your opinion on success?

Obviously everyone has a different viewpoint of what that should look like. For me I think i have had some success, especially because getting into dj first, the plan was for it to solely be a hobby and now years later It’s become my life and having been able to play festivals like Day Trip, Coachella, Fresh Start and many others is something I could have only dreamed of and definitely not something I even thought about when I first got into it. And for me all the small wins I’ve gotten in production are little success stories to me and I celebrate all of them haha. From getting radio support or djs playing out my track or charting on Beatport to simply even getting a track or remix signed by a label I’ve wanted to work with.

What is your opinion on failure?

Idk, that is a good question. For some failure is when they don’t get a track signed that they recently finished or that they are excited about. To me, I’m just like “That’s your lost lol” and take the time to do more digging for labels I’d like to work with that would also be a good fit for the track. Some view failure as not making it on major event lineups or festivals and again for me that just drives and sometimes even lights a fire under me to figure what else I could be doing to get more noticed and be considered for those events. Any “failure” I’ve had in the music industry since I’ve started, I’ve tried to take the silver lining approach and see what good things I did to get there and what I can improve on.

In which ways could the scene improve in the future?

I think the big key for the scene to improve is more diversity. More minorities, more LGBTQ+ and more women on lineups, especially on festival lineups.

What is your favourite Norwegian word? 😉

Døgne. My friend told me I do this sometimes since I do like to go on little benders here and there hahaha.

We just got a fresh mix from him for our SNOE Affairs series, enjoy the ride:
